Eight years ago nobody, including Pastor Perry Noble, could have envisioned what NewSpring would become today.

Big gifts sometimes come in the smallest packages. Take us for example: NewSpring had its humble beginnings as a Bible study of just eight people and has since exploded into one of the fastest growing churches in the nation. In 1996, God gave Perry the desire to plant a church, and two years later, by 1998, he started a Bible study for college students in his home. Small indeed, but God’s plan was evident. In less than two months, it grew from eight people to 150, and by 1999, God brought together a core group of fifteen people to cast the vision for NewSpring Church.

With a church on practically every corner, it hardly seemed like Anderson needed yet another church; however, research showed that nearly forty-eight percent of the people in the county didn't attend church on a regular basis. So this core group had a vision: “Why not create a church that would adhere to solid, Christian doctrine but would be entirely different from the other churches in the community?” They decided to do something radical. And in doing so, they chose to focus on three main areas:
  • Creativity: Make the church the most creative place of worship on the planet
  • Excellence: Do everything with 110 percent effort, quality and effectiveness
  • Relevance: Teach people how God and the Bible are relevant to their lives today
From there, things began moving quickly. On January 16th, 2000, 115 people attended NewSpring’s first, Sunday morning service at Anderson College. By 2002, growth had gone through the roof. NewSpring moved to the largest auditorium on campus and went to four, weekly services averaging 3500 people in attendance each week. By 2004, the increasing numbers could no longer be ignored.  The church needed more space.

In January 2006, NewSpring finished construction on its very own, state-of-the-art facility complete with a 2500 seat auditorium and kids space. As 2006 progressed, the numbers continued to explode with more than 900 people accepting Christ, and nearly 800 publicly declaring Him as their Lord and Savior through baptism.

The ride has been invigorating and the growth has not ceased, and once again, NewSpring finds itself busting at the seams and desperately in need of more space. What an exciting problem to have.  A tiny Bible study becoming a church reaching thousands! We continue to pray that God will use NewSpring to touch the lives of more and more people throughout the Upstate of South Carolina and beyond.
